Mat & Kat's big bike trip
Day 82 Athens
Today is our final day of cycling in Greece. It seems ironic that this is easily the least beautiful day's riding here.
We came out of Corinth alongside a busy dual carriageway, then rode right through the middle of a gigantic oil refinery. The road there was closed for works, but we hauled our bikes around the closed section.
The next 15km were on service roads alongside the motorway to Athens, but we found a lovely little cafe on the route for coffee and baklava.
After that our road split from the highway and we road along a deserted section next to the sea. We stopped for lunch on a shady bench next to the water.
Another 10km through pistachio groves took us to ferry hop across the after onto Salamina, and then another 15km to the ferry port. Or what we thought was the port, and actually turned out to be a tiny fishing village! Oops, another 5km to the actual port, and our second ferry of the day to Parama.
From there it was a busy but fun 15km ride into Athens city. It's much quieter and greener than we were expecting, and our apartment here is sooo luxury! Looking forward to exploring Athens over the next few days. Still can't quite believe we rode here from Spain!
