Kat & Mat's big bike trip
Day 80 Krathio
It was a super windy start today, we were really struggling into the headwinds. Mat picked up a coffee which improved things, but we fought all the way to Kamares where we rested in the shade of a motorway bridge.
It's strange having the sea off to our left, it's been on our right for this entire trip so far.
We stopped for lunch one in a shady little park for halloumi and salad pittas.
We got chased by a couple of dogs on a country road. One was sleeping under a car and woke up as Mat rode past and was barking and crawling out as Kat went past. A couple of houses along, another dog ran out and ducked in front of Mat, forcing him to brake. The owners shouted furiously at the second dog but it ignored them, just as our dog Stanley would have done.
Mat: It just got hotter and more windy, until about 12:30 I could feel my brain starting to go wrong, so we stopped in a shady bar for drinks. It's a strange feeling, first I get a bit tired, then my thinking slows down and I find it hard to reason, and then I start getting really sad and fatalistic. Once I got a Coke in me and some ice on my neck and face, regular me came back.
And then we saw Line ride past! We knew she was in this area, but she said she'd be ahead of us. I ran out into the road and yelled but she didn't hear us. We haven't seen her since Turin, two months ago when we cycled together for a few days. We started riding, but didn't expect to catch her, but five minutes later we saw her and her friends coming out of a store. It was such a joyous reunion! She was with her girlfriend Éva, who'd just joined her on the trip, and a British guy they met last night, Sam, who cycled here from Bristol. We caught up, rode with them for a while and then agreed to meet again in Athens in a few days time. They're going to Corinth today.
The last 10km to our accommodation were very hot, hilly and windy. Today was not a great cycling day, but Line and her pals really made it.
