Kat & Mat's big bike trip
Day 19 Ventimiglia
Refreshed from a day off, we set off from Cannes this morning with our friend Soren. The first 30km into Nice was pretty flat coastal riding, passing through pretty Mediterranean towns.
We stopped at Nice for a look around the town (another UNESCO site ticked off) and a snack. Then it was a hard climb up out of Nice, and some pretty winding coastal roads into Monaco.
Monaco itself is insane: so much traffic, every other car is a supercar. We rode along a section of the Formula 1 track, over the start line! We stopped in a very beautiful park to have lunch, sweaty and grubby and surrounded by people in suits with €20,000 dogs.
The ride from there to the Italian border was relaxed, but as soon as we crossed the border we discovered that the tunnel we were planning to take was closed, so the only option was the mountain way! Definitely not what we wanted at the end of a long day, but we made it into Ventimiglia about 17:30 still smiling.
It's been such an amazing adventure to have cycled all the way across France, and we're sooo looking forward to what Italy has to offer. 🥰
