Kat & Mat's big bike trip
Day 46 Sibenik
Last night's accommodation was lovely, but so full of mosquitoes! Mat got six bites overnight and Kat got three.
We went to the supermarket before we left to find lunch. There are 4 main Croatian supermarkets: Plodine, Konzum, Tommy and Studenak. They are all exremely underwhelming. Fresh fruit and veg is very much an afterthought, there only seems to be one brand of pasta sauce available in the whole of Croatia and the cheese is rubbery and flavourless. They do love meat though, especially spit-roasted lamb. This is a probably taster of what it will be like in the Balkans.
We hopped on the ferry for a short crossing to the island of Ugljian, and then rode down the length of the island to the ferry terminal at the other end. The island was really cute, very quiet and pretty.
Once we got back on the mainland it was quite a long, hard ride in the heat, and we were glad to get into Sibenik. Just before we arrived, a buzzy thing got into Mat's t-shirt and stung him a bunch of times!
Kat didn't let Mat relax - as soon as we arrived we dashed out to visit the UNESCO-listed cathedral which was closing in an hour. It has amazing lace-like stonework in the baptistry roof.
Our apartment is in a beautiful courtyard garden so we had an al fresco dinner (no mozzies yet).
Love, Kat & Mat x
