Kat & Mat's big bike trip
Day 10 Perpignan
Ok the ride to Perpignan was very beautiful, but more importantly: we saw 11 YELLOW CARS on the way here! A third of all the yellow cars we've seen on this entire trip have been in the last 30km. If this doesn't make you go "wow!" then maybe we can't be friends after all. Sorry.
The ride to the French border was glorious, on really small roads. All the trucks were on the motorway, so it was just us and a few local cars on this beautiful Sunday morning here. There are cork oak forests with signs that they're still harvesting the cork here.
There were Guardia Civil doing random checks before the border, and a sign that we were coming into France but only empty custom booths to ride through.
Coming out of the border town on the French side we had the most beautiful views over the Eastern Pyrenees off to our left, majestic snowy peaks and endless forests. Our route down was winding and empty, stunningly pretty and endlessly downhill. The beauty is breathtaking.
Okay, first thoughts on France? It's really tidy. There's hardly any graffiti. There's way more money on this side of the border. Things are very well maintained.
Once we reached the bottom of the hills is was rolling but mostly flat to Perpignan. The road was extremely straight, probably more of the Via Augusta, and heavy with traffic. There was little to enjoy in this stretch but we did arrive in good time for lunch and a lie down in a park.
