Our farm stay/agritourism was absolutely amazing. It's family run, the mother prepares all the food and the father runs a vineyard. The building is quite grand with about a dozen rooms, a huge restaurant and terrace downstairs and a lovely garden facing onto the vines. There was a dog with two puppies, a turkey with a clutch of chicks, a peacock, goats and lots of hens and chicks wandering around. So tranquil! We had a fantastic mezze supper with some of their homemade wine.
Breakfast is included and consisted of a plate of salad cheese and olives, fruit and a pile of petulla - freshly made fried doughballs and fig jam. They persuaded us to take a free bottle of wine - Kat wouldn't have carried it but Mat was willing to take the weight!
Our ride started through beautiful rural landscapes before getting a bit busier.
Mat: We were riding down a busy road when I pulled out to pass a parked car. As I passed, the driver said "alright?" in perfect Estuary English. I almost fell off my bike laughing.
There was traffic chaos going around Tirana airport, then it was quiet again on back roads into the centre.
A boy on a scooter joined us for a bit then stopped and high fived Kat as she went past. Traffic was intense again in the centre but Mat navigated like a pro to reach our villa.
After some sightseeing we went out for a long walk in the afternoon: there's a Sombra shown in Tirana on the official map, but neither of us really believed it would be here. It was! Amazing! We were both a little giddy with excitement. Tomorrow we're hiring a car and driving up into the mountains to see if the other ones listed on the map really exist.
